It has always been Swire Properties' commitment to bring to Hong Kong an active arts and cultural programme for the enjoyment of the general public.
The Company believes that appreciation of the arts should be promoted in different forms and varieties. Regular piano performances have been staged at Garden Court in Pacific Place since The Mall opened its doors in 1990, making this the first shopping centre to feature performances of this kind in a public space, so as to create a relaxed and light-hearted ambience for shoppers.
Keen to bring quality cultural entertainment to the community, the Company sponsored Cirque du Soleil in Alegria and Saltimbanco in 1996 and 1999 respectively. In 2000, the Brazilian and Argentinean Festivals at Island East were well received by the public, who have been equally appreciative of the lunchtime music concerts and the Friday Fest' jazz performances regularly held at TaiKoo Place.
Artwalk
Besides art exhibitions staged at retail and office premises, a stunning collection of artworks has been carefully collected and placed on permanent public display throughout the office lobbies of Island East, forming the Island East Artwalk.
This collection of local and internationally commissioned artworks concentrates on complementing the space for which each is intended. From paintings to tapestries and sculptures, many pieces in the Artwalk have a story or a meaning behind them. If you would like more information on the Artwalk, contact us.
