  • 1972

    1. Swire Properties was incorporated in Hong Kong with interests held by B & S Industries Limited and The Taikoo Dockyard and Engineering Company of Hong Kong Limited (renamed as Swire Pacific Limited in 1974).

    1. In January, the Hong Kong Government approved in principle a master development plan submitted by the Company to develop a site comprising approximately 96 acres, including the Taikoo Dockyard (now known as Taikoo Shing), Taikoo Sugar Refinery Compound (which later became the Taikoo Trading Estate and the current TaiKoo Place), Braemar Reservoir and various land lots in Taikoo Valley.

    1. The Company commenced its major development in the Hong Kong property market, Taikoo Shing. A 61-block residential project at the former Taikoo Dockyard site, the development is one of Hong Kong's major housing estates, and lays the foundation of Swire Properties.
    2. Completion of Westlands Gardens, a residential development comprising 652 units.
  • 1976

    Hong Kong
    1. The Taikoo Sugar Refinery Compound was renamed the Taikoo Trading Estate. During this year, the Estate underwent an extensive upgrading and improvement programme. With the entire building fully let, the Company's Board approved the conversion of a vacant site into a light industrial/godown building, later known as Warwick House, to meet additional demand.
    2. Tung Ting Mansion, the first block of Taikoo Shing, was offered for sale in January. Priced at HK$220 per sq ft, all 220 units were sold in a single day. The year also marked the official opening of Tung Ting Mansion in December.
    International
    1. The Company decided to invest significantly in the United States to implement its diversification strategy by acquiring interests in Berkeley Hambro Inc., a developer headquartered in Tampa, Florida. In addition, Swire McCormack Limited, was formed in joint venture with The McCormack Corporation based in Hawaii to develop for sale a townhouse complex on a residential site known as Puu Alii at Lilipuna Hills on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu.

    1. The Company was listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong in June. Its shares were also traded on the London Stock Exchange.

    1. The Company acquired interests in a joint venture with a Florida-based company, Cheezem Development Corporation Limited, to develop a 33.6-acre site on Claughton Island, Miami. Claughton Island was later renamed Brickell Key.
    2. The Company acquired the remaining interest in Berkeley Hambro Inc., and changed its name to Swire Properties Inc.

    1. Completion of Warwick House, Taikoo Trading Estate.

    1. Completion of Mount Parker House, an office building in Cityplaza.
    2. Completion of the residential project, Rocky Bank on Deep Water Bay Road, Hong Kong Island, which comprised six semi-detached houses.

    1. Swire McCormack Limited became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company and was renamed Swire Properties (Hawaii) Limited.

    1. Completion of Kowloon Bay Cargo Centre.

    1. Completion of Phases I & II of Puu Alii in Hawaii, comprising a total of 285 units.

    1. Cityplaza One was completed. The complex included retail outlets, restaurants and entertainment facilities comprising a bowling alley, two cinemas, an ice-skating rink and roller-skating facilities.

    1. By means of a Scheme of Arrangement which became effective in July, Swire Pacific Limited acquired the remaining interest in Swire Properties, making Swire Properties a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swire Pacific Limited.
    2. Completion of Cornwall House, Taikoo Trading Estate.

    1. To strengthen the Company’s investment portfolio, Swire Properties purchased the Victoria Barracks site on Queensway at a land auction. The site was planned to be redeveloped into a commercial and hotel project.
    2. Completion of Westlands Court in Quarry Bay, which provided a total of 652 residential units.

    Hong Kong
    1. The Company purchased at a land auction a site on Queensway, which is adjacent to the Victoria Barracks site it had purchased the previous year. The entire Queensway development, later known as Pacific Place, was completed in two phases. The first phase was completed in late 1988, followed by phase two in 1991.

    1. Completion of Courvoisier Centre on Brickell Key in Miami, Florida.
  • 1987

    Hong Kong
    1. Completion and opening of the second phase of the Cityplaza shopping and entertainment complex.
    2. The final phase of Village Gardens on Tat Chee Avenue/Fa Po Street was completed. The whole project comprised 373 units.
    3. Completion of Beacon Heights on Lung Cheung Road, Kowloon, providing a total of 642 residential units.
    4. The remaining five towers of Horizon Gardens in Taikoo Shing were completed during the year. This marked the culmination of the Taikoo Shing residential development, which comprised 12,698 residential homes in 61 towers.
  • 1988

    Hong Kong
    1. The first phase office development of Pacific Place was handed over to tenants, while most of the lettable retail space was made available for fitting-out by the end of the year. Swire Properties moved into its headquarters at One Pacific Place in August.
    2. Completion of Somerset House, Taikoo Trading Estate.
    3. As part of the Pacific Place development, the 602-room five-star hotel JW Marriott Hotel was completed. At present, the Company has a 20% interest in the hotel.
    4. Completion of Harbour Heights, which comprised three residential towers and a retail podium. The project provided a total of 924 apartments.

    Hong Kong
    1. Completion of the Lei King Wan residential development, comprising 2,295 flats in 17 towers.
    2. Completion of The Albany, a luxury residential tower at 1 Albany Road comprising 74 apartments, 8 duplexes and 2 penthouses.
    3. Completion of Parkvale residential development on King’s Road. The project provided 812 apartments.
    4. The Atrium, 136 fully-furnished serviced suites in Pacific Place, was completed and kept for long-term investment.
  • 1990

    Hong Kong
    1. Pacific Place Mall opened for business. Two Pacific Place was also completed during the year.
    2. The 513-room five-star hotel Conrad Hong Kong in Pacific Place was completed. The Company has a 20% interest in the hotel.
    3. The Town Planning Board rezoned Taikoo Trading Estate as a Comprehensive Development Area, which reserved the Estate for office rather than industrial redevelopment use. The Company identified the opportunity to create a decentralised business hub in the area, and Taikoo Trading Estate was renamed TaiKoo Place.

    1. In the United States, the Pohakea Point residential development on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii, as well as Courvoisier Centre II, the Company's second office building on Brickell Key in Miami, Florida, were both completed.

    1. The Pacific Place development in Admiralty was fully completed in 1991. The complex comprised a shopping mall, two office towers with a business conference centre, serviced apartments and three five-star hotels, as well as car parking spaces.
    2. Parkside, comprising 243 fully-furnished serviced suites within the Pacific Place development, was opened for business.
    3. Completion of the 565-room five-star hotel, the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong in Pacific Place. The Company has a 20% interest in the hotel.
    4. Completion of Cityplaza Four, Cityplaza.

    1. Opening of the Pacific Place Conference Centre located on Level 5 of One Pacific Place, to provide one-stop business conference facilities to tenants.
    2. Completion of Cityplaza Three, Cityplaza.

    1. Completion of Devon House, TaiKoo Place, fronting King’s Road.

    1. The Company commenced a new residential development on Brickell Key in Miami, Florida, known as The Tequesta. The project was later renamed One Tequesta Point. This investment project marked the beginning of a substantial long-term development plan for the entire island.

    1. Completion of Dorset House, TaiKoo Place and its twin tower, the Hongkong Telecom Tower which was renamed PCCW Tower in 2000.
    2. Completion of Robinson Place in Mid-Levels, providing a total of 619 residential units in the twin-tower development.

    1. Located at Brickell Key in Miami, Florida, One Tequesta Point, originally known as The Tequesta and planned for investment, was completed and converted into a condominium tower to be offered for sale.

    1. Butterfield’s, a private club in Dorset House, TaiKoo Place that offers catering and business facilities to tenants, was opened.
    2. The three residential towers and the retail podium in Island Place were completed, providing a total of 784 flats. The residential and office premises were put up for sale, while the retail space and car parking spaces were kept for long-term investment.

    1. Completion of renovation of Cityplaza shopping mall phase one and the office tower, Cityplaza One.
    2. Completion of The Floridian on Sai Wan Terrace, which provided 214 flats.
    3. Completion of Sunningdale, the 44-unit residential scheme on Sai Yee Street, Mong Kok.
    4. Completion of Island Place office tower.
  • 1998

    Hong Kong
    1. Completion of Fairwinds, a four-house scheme on Tung Tau Wan Road, Stanley.
    2. Completion of Festival Walk, which offered retail space spanning seven levels, an office tower, car parking spaces and a public transportation terminus. The complex is directly connected to the Kowloon Tong station, an interchange between the MTR and KCR railway systems.
    3. Completion of Lincoln House, TaiKoo Place and 625 King’s Road in North Point.
    4. Two residential schemes, Belair Monte in Fanling and Greenfields in Yuen Long, were completed. The Company held equity interests of 8% and 7% respectively.

    1. Completion of Two Tequesta Point, a condominium tower on Brickell Key in Miami, followed by the commencement of Three Tequesta Point.

    1. Completion of Oxford House, TaiKoo Place.
    2. Completion of the retail and office components of Citygate in Tung Chung, as well as the 2,158-unit Tung Chung Crescent residential scheme. The Company has a 20% interest in the consortium.
    3. Completion of StarCrest, which provided a total of 329 luxury apartments. This marked the beginning of the revitalisation of the entire Star Street area.
    4. The Company received government approval to build Hong Kong's first privately initiated elderly housing project.

    1. Completion of the renovation project for the Cityplaza shopping mall.
    2. Completion of CITIC Square in Shanghai which the Company has a 10% interest.

    1. Opening of the 326-room five-star hotel, Mandarin Oriental in Miami, which the Company has a 75% interest.
  • 2001

    Hong Kong
    1. Opening of Cityplaza Cinemas, the first in Hong Kong to offer a Director's Club.
    2. Completion of Les Saisons residential scheme in Aldrich Bay, providing a total of 864 residential units. The Company has a 50% interest in this residential development.
    3. The Island East Matrix, a dedicated fibre-optic network serving Island East tenants, was completed.

    1. Completion of Three Tequesta Point on Brickell Key, Miami.

    China
    1. The Company signed an agreement with the Guangzhou Daily Group to develop TaiKoo Hui, a large-scale commercial and cultural complex in the Tianhe District of Guangzhou.
  • 2003

    Hong Kong
    1. The Company launched 3 Coombe Road, a luxury residential project on the Peak that comprised four houses.
    2. Completion of the last phase of the Ocean Shores residential development in Tseung Kwan O. The scheme provided a total of 5,728 residential units. The Company has a 49% interest in this development.
    3. Completion of The Orchards in Quarry Bay, which comprised a total of 432 residential units.
    4. Completion of Cambridge House, TaiKoo Place.

    1. Completion of Courts Brickell Key, a condominium tower on Brickell Key in Miami.
  • 2004

    China
    1. The Company signed a revised joint venture agreement to increase its stake in the TaiKoo Hui commercial and cultural complex in Guangzhou from 55% to 97%. The complex would consist of a retail centre, offices, a hotel and a cultural centre.

    1. Completion of Jade Residences on Brickell Bay, Miami.
  • 2006

    China
    1. The Company purchased from HKR International Limited a 50% interest in the Dazhongli project in the Jing'an District of Shanghai. This landmark project, consisting of a major retail mall, offices and hotels, was jointly developed and held primarily for long-term investment.

    1. The Company acquired Alias Hotels PLC, which owned three lifestyle hotels in the UK. This was the Company's first acquisition in the UK property market, and provided an opportunity to expand into the UK real estate and hotel sectors.
  • 2007

    China
    1. The Company acquired the Beijing Sanlitun project in partnership with Gateway China Fund I (managed by Gaw Captial Partners). The project is a low-rise mixed commercial scheme comprising retail development and a 99-room hotel. The Company has 80% interest in the retail portion and full ownership of the hotel.

    1. The Company acquired the Avon Gorge hotel in Bristol, UK.
  • 2008

    China
    1. Acquisition of 50% interest to develop a retail-led mixed-use project in Chaoyang District adjacent to Jiang Tai in Beijing, later named INDIGO. This is the Company's second project in Beijing.
    2. The Company established its Mainland China headquarters in Beijing.
    3. Opening of the southern portion of Sanlitun Village and The Opposite House in Beijing.

    1. Completion of ASIA, a 32-storey residential condominium tower comprising 123 residential units, located on Brickell Key in Miami.
  • 2009

    Hong Kong
    1. Opening of the second Swire hotel, The Upper House in Pacific Place.
    2. Completion of the first phase of the Pacific Place Contemporisation Project, transforming the architectural design and facilities of this flagship complex.
    3. Completion of the Island Lodge residential development in North Point. The Company was appointed by China Motor Bus Company Limited to be the developer of this residential project.

    1. The Company formed a strategic partnership with Mainland developer Sino-Ocean Land to explore and acquire new development opportunities in Mainland China.
    2. Opening of the northern portion of Sanlitun Village in Beijing, which marked the official launch of the entire Sanlitun Village development.
  • 2011

    China
    1. Official opening of TaiKoo Hui, the Company’s flagship property in Mainland China. Located in Guangzhou, TaiKoo Hui is a large-scale commercial mixed-use complex comprising a shopping mall, two Grade-A office towers, a cultural centre and a five-star hotel with serviced apartments.
    2. Opening of INDIGO’s office tower, ONE INDIGO. INDIGO is a retail-led mixed-use development in Jiangtai in Chaoyang District, Beijing.

    1. The Company set up a representative office in Singapore to explore further investment opportunities in Asia.
  • 2012

    China
    1. The launch of Chengdu Daci Temple Cultural and Commercial Complex, a mixed-use commercial project comprising a retail centre, a hotel with serviced apartments and a Grade A office tower named Pinnacle One.
    2. Opening of INDIGO, a retail-led mixed-use development in Beijing comprising a shopping mall, an office tower named ONE INDIGO, and EAST Beijing – a lifestyle business hotel.

    1. The launch of Brickell CityCentre Project, a mixed-use development in Miami, Florida. It was the largest single project in the city to date.
