A New Park For The City

  The Great Crescent

The centrepiece of the plan is a magnificent sixteen-hectare crescent of green space that enhances the harbour edge between the Convention Centre and the new Star Ferry Terminal. Three Historic, Arts and Civic Corridors are proposed to link the waterfront to centres of interest in the district. The strength of the plan lies in its utter simplicity. It proposes:

  • a broad open green that sweeps along the water, intended for spontaneous uses ranging from kite flying to visiting circuses

  • a reversed arc of tightly spaced trees that creates a cool, shady woodland for quiet contemplation and casual gathering around small retail pavilions

  • a formal boulevard at the park's southern edge that provides a strong boundary to the park and frontage for sites with street level shops and cafes overlooking the park

  • a civic plaza anchoring the crescent and framed by bosques of flowering trees at the water's edge.
