CASE STUDY: Improving Energy Efficiency - In Collaboration with Tsinghua University

Professor Yi Jiang, Head of Building Energy Research Centre, Tsinghua University: Swire Properties is a reputable property developer strong in energy performance, whereas Tsinghua is one of the few universities in the Mainland that has demonstrated competence in operational efficiency of buildings. I believe we can together set a new benchmark on building energy efficiency for the industry.

Background

In 2007, Swire Properties entered into collaboration with the Building Energy Research Centre of Tsinghua University to develop and promote energy efficient operational practices and management in the PRC and HKSAR.

Energy audit and on-site diagnosis

By November 2007, a detailed energy audit and on-site diagnosis plan of the building service system in Festival Walk were completed. By improving operation and control, an estimated total saving potential of up to 1,000 MWh, which is equivalent to a reduction of 580 tonnes of CO2e emission, is anticipated. Improvement plans will be rolled out in 2008 so that similar exercises can be conducted on other buildings.
