Swire Properties Discovers 170 Island East Office Talents to Realise Acting Dreams in Stage Musical

Co-presenting with Theatre Noir Foundation, a home-grown non-profit theatre company, Swire Properties invited the Island East office community to audition for its first-ever office musical, Preview of Miss Rose – A Romantic Musical “Behind a Desk”. This new initiative is part of Swire Properties’ year-round tenant engagement programme offered exclusively for its office tenants.

The musical project will allow casting hopefuls to work with leading acting professionals in Hong Kong during the audition process. Louisa So and Louis Cheung, both of whom are graduates of the Hong Kong Academy For Performing Arts and active in local theatre scene and TV dramas, will be guest instructors in the audition workshops. Each session will run for 60 minutes and involve dance exercises, theatre games and a solo vocal performance. All applicants can also attend a master class hosted by actress-turned director Kearen Pang, who will pass on her expertise and stage tips.

The four-week casting call ended on 11 April and 170 applications were received for the auditions, which will take place on 24 and 25 April. The office population was attracted by gigantic “post-it” notes with QR codes in office lobbies and inside elevators, as well as life-size posters on the walls. Within hours on the first day of the casting call, the QR-codes with audition details were scanned over 1,000 times.

“Swire Properties has had a long tradition of tailor-making innovative arts and sports programmes to engage and connect with our client base” said Mr. Don Taylor, Office Portfolio Director of Swire Properties. “The enthusiastic response we’ve received for this musical project highlights how employees of our tenants are multi-talented and supportive of our creative efforts.”

Applicants for the musical audition have diverse career backgrounds spanning different sectors, including banking & finance, luxury & fashion and IT, and work in some 100 offices in TaiKoo Place and Cityplaza, from JP Morgan, Citibank, HSBC, DBS, American Express, ANZ, Thomson Reuters and Ernst & Young to IBM, LVMH, adidas, AXA, Deloitte and more.

Mr. William Yip, Artistic Director of Theatre Noir Foundation remarked, “We are excited to be part of this forward looking community outreach, which allows us to promote performing arts to wider audiences.”

Finalists in the auditions will receive an array of coaching by theatre professionals, and will perform with theatre professionals at ArtisTree in the Preview of Miss Rose – A Romantic Musical “Behind a Desk” at the end of July 2014. The main production will be presented by Theatre Noir Foundation in November in Hong Kong.
