Free energy audits for tenants

We offer office tenants in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland free energy audits to help them understand their usage patterns and identify energy-saving opportunities.

Since 2008, our energy audits have covered 3.2 million square feet of commercial office space in Hong Kong, identifying potential annual energy savings of approximately 2.8 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) as of 31 December 2016. We also provide free energy audits to our tenants in Taikoo Li Sanlitun, Beijing and Taikoo Hui, Guangzhou, covering more than 1.5 million square feet of tenanted area and identifying potential annual energy savings of approximately 3.5 million kWh as of 31 December 2016.

Green Shop Alliance

Established in May 2017 by the Construction Industry Council and the Hong Kong Green Building Council, the Green Shop Alliance aims to promote sustainability initiatives in the retail industry in Hong Kong, including among owners, facility managers and tenants. Swire Properties was the first property developer to join the alliance, with more than 60 of our retail tenants pledging to adopt green measures aimed at reducing energy and water use and managing waste through reuse and recycling. We are currently working with each of these tenants to help them fulfil their pledge to be environmentally responsible and incorporate sustainable practices into their daily operations.

Wanchai Revitalisation

Wan Chai Revitalisation Project

In 2009, we commenced work on the Old Wan Chai Revitalisation Initiatives under a public–private partnership with the Hong Kong Government. The project aimed to revitalise the streetscape and historical features of the Old Wan Chai district and rebuild a sense of identity for the community in the surrounding neighbourhood.

The project gave us the chance to collaborate with different government departments, key stakeholders and the general public to rejuvenate one of Hong Kong’s most historic and colourful neighbourhoods for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

The project, which was completed in 2012, improved the streetscape, street furniture, paving, lighting and greenery of the area, including at two garden sites and throughout the interconnecting pedestrian network.

Green Procurement

Working with our building main contractors and suppliers, we strive to purchase green office products, building services equipment and building materials whenever possible. We have established a company-wide green procurement monitoring system which analyses purchases against specific environmental criteria, including, for example, whether the products have been certified or accredited as “green” by reputable, independent third parties.

We are also conducting a pilot study to measure embodied carbon emissions from major building and construction materials used in One Taikoo Place, our new office tower in Taikoo Place in Hong Kong.
