Health and Safety Performance

From our stakeholder
"Employee: On health and safety, the EHS report can be a communication tool to demonstrate why injuries occur and how they can be prevented."

Safety Training and Awareness

To achieve our target of a zero accident rate, health and safety training is of paramount importance, particularly for our frontline employees.

Our health and safety training programmes can be categorised into three main types:

Job Specific

  • Metal scaffolding
  • Electric arc welding
  • Display screen equipment

Mandatory

  • Safety card
  • Gondola
  • Gas welding
  • Confined space

Safety Awareness

  • Awareness talk on Avian Flu
  • Safety in manual handling
  • Basic safety knowledge
  • Lift & escalator safety

"Chau Ho Yin, Employee: The Basic Safety Awareness Training is a very effective programme. In particular, I enjoyed the case review section as it was practical and applicable to my job."

Basic Safety Awareness Training

This aims to give an introduction to health and safety knowledge for all frontline employees.

The chart below shows that the most common accident types in 2007 were associated with manual handling and slip, trip and fall. Therefore, our Basic Safety Awareness Training focuses on the correct method and posture to adopt in manual lifting, and related hazards. In 2007, 49 training sessions were conducted for 94% of our frontline employees.

Pre-work Exercise Ambassador Training Workshop

"Wai Yiu Kei, Andy, Employee: I found the Pre-work Exercise Ambassador Training Workshop very useful in terms of promoting the awareness of physical fitness to work safety. I enjoyed many aspects of the workshop, in particular the lecture on the human physical structure."

In order to enhance the physical and mental readiness of our frontline employees, expert speakers from the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong were invited to design and facilitate a Pre-work Exercise Ambassador Training Workshop. Two sessions of the workshop were held in 2007 at which 24 supervisory employees were trained and they are now qualified to lead stretching exercise at daily briefings with frontline employees. The workshop will be rolled out in all our premises in 2008.
