New Orientation and Connectivity to the Waterfront
Critical to improved pedestrian access to the waterfront will be a series of green sky-bridges. Attractively designed, they can form part of the functional landscape and will reduce the vehicular impact on the pedestrian character of the residential and commercial neighbourhood.
Improved waterfront access will ensure that the newly added destinations, especially the proposed Eco-Park, ferry pier and waterfront restaurants, are within reach of people arriving by public transport, taxis and private cars from several directions.
To increase access and efficiently handle traffic flow, it is proposed that a new series of addressing streets and off-ramps from the Island Eastern Corridor would reduce vehicular impact on the pedestrian character around the residential neighbourhood of Taikoo Shing.
This new orientation and connectivity improves traffic flow and impact, facilitates convenient access to existing and proposed attractions and destinations by people in the neighbourhood and visitors, and enables pedestrian access to sites further to the east.
It is suggested that this phase of development will add vibrancy to the area for the enjoyment of the whole family and those who need assistance in mobility.
