Shau kei Wan Fisherman's Wharf and the Eastern Seaboard : a Return to the Outdoors

Path around Lei Yue Mun to Heng Fa Chuen

Enhancements in the Soho East area, which include the Hong Kong Film Archives building, would encourage greater pedestrian flow toward the seafront and environs. For example, improved pedestrian facilities to and from the Grand Promenade bus depot and residential building could facilitate a direct link to the waterfront area at Aldrich Bay.

The nearby golf driving range could also be converted into a true public open space, one capable, for example, of hosting festival activities and markets that would serve and attract people from the surrounding neighbourhoods and visitors alike.

Attractions further to the east would focus on Tin Hau Temple Alley and the formation of a new, interesting and convenient heritage cluster. For example, in addition to the existing historical sites, a potentially refurbished fishing fleet area, Fisherman's Wharf, where a Fisherman's Market and a Restaurant Row would result in a lively new destination that realises and celebrates the economic heritage of fishing and its importance to the development and culture of early Hong Kong.

In addition, the existing Museum of Coastal Defence could be better served by a new public boardwalk leading to the Heng Fa Chuen Promenade and ending in Chai Wan. Thereon, the Chai Wan waterfront could be linked in front of existing utility, warehouse, and industrial areas with public pathways of varying width.

It is envisaged that all of the proposed connections would easily be reached by pedestrian pathways leading to MTR stations along the entire stretch of the study area.

As the proverbial land's end of Hong Kong Island, Chai Wan is the perfect launching point for access to water sports across Sai Kung and the Eastern Seaboard.
