Health and SafetyGood standards of health and safety are essential to the success of our business. We recognise our responsibility to protect our employees, contractors and clients from hazards and personal injury while engaging in our business activities. Our commitment to stakeholder health and safety is displayed in the effective implementation of management systems that emphasise continual training and increased safety awareness. Examples of initiatives that took place during the year include the following: Independent Safety Audit
Independent safety audit of our safety management system (SMS) was commissioned in 2006 in keeping with our annual practice since 2003. This exercise provides us with the ongoing assurance that our safety performance remains in line with the local best practice. From our audit, as set against local statutory requirements, we achieved a high score of 89%. Safety at Work
Preventing injury at work is always our main safety goal, and work at height is a recurrent concern for all property development and management businesses. In this regard, from July 2006 we prohibited the use of 'A-shape' wooden ladders without proper metal hinges in our premises. We informed all existing contractors of the new arrangement, and issued a reminder that all ladders must comply with industrial safety standards. Staff Awareness
Our Second Inter-Departmental Health and Safety Quiz Competition for Frontline Workers was organised in September 2006 in response to positive feedback from our staff. We aimed to provide frontline workers with the incentive to understand more about occupational safety and health, with a total of eight teams vying for the trophy and other awards. Business Continuity
An internal workshop on communicable disease was conducted in line with our Pandemic Disease Action Plan. The Workshop involved various scenarios and open discussion to strengthen staff awareness of the principles and practices of pandemic crisis management. The workshop participants included our Pandemic Disease Action Team and managerial staff from our portfolio centres. |
