Swire Properties today revealed its corporate lounge design at the second edition of Art Basel in Hong Kong, the world's premier art show for modern and contemporary works. Themed “Reflections”, the over 1000-sq-ft lounge features an art installation that creates optical illusions through an intricate maze of tall coloured glass panels and mirrors.
Echoing Swire Properties’ belief in creative transformation, the design of the lounge offers a multi-layered perspective of a connected space, and attempts to surprise visitors through the use of optical illusions. The glass panels and mirrors are designed in a precise geometry and are linked by a yellow line throughout. Reflections of viewers standing on the yellow line are bounced around the installation, appearing on mirrors at unexpected corners.
“The installation is an optical maze that catches viewers off guard at different vantage points,” said Marc Brulhart, owner of Marc & Chantal, who was commissioned for the project. “It transmits glances and expressions between viewers, bringing people together, whether they are strangers or old friends.”
Located at Level 1 Concourse, opposite Hall 1C entrance of HKCEC, Swire Properties’ lounge is open to the public free of charge. All visitors can enjoy a free drink at the lounge after taking a picture of the art installation and uploading it onto Facebook with the hashtags #SwireProperties and #ABHK2014.
On 17 May, Swire Properties’ corporate lounge will also host a salon, which will see speakers discuss whether art tourism is the modern grand tour and how to encourage an increased mindfulness in the way we travel. Moderated by Bloomberg’s Hong Kong-based reporter Zeb Eckert, the discussion will hear from Chief Curator of M+ Hong Kong Doryun Chong, CEO of LUXE City Guides Simon Westcott and Publisher of Orientations magazine Yifawn Lee. The salon is open to the public on a first-come first-served basis.
