Green Performance Pledge

Officially launched in July 2022 in Hong Kong, the Green Performance Pledge (“GPP”) is a performance-based landlord-tenant partnership. Building on the basic premise of a green lease, the GPP covers the entire tenancy cycle in two core areas, fit-out and operations, focusing on creating a significant impact in terms of energy, water and waste reduction.

Over 100 office tenants in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, across diverse sectors including finance, luxury, legal, information technology and beyond, have signed up.

Green Kitchen Initiative

Launched in 2017, 107 F&B outlets across Swire Properties’ Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland portfolios have participated in the Green Kitchen Initiative. The Green Kitchen Initiative is a platform that allows portfolio management teams and tenants to have sustainability conversations before fit-out and renovation projects commence.

Using the comprehensive “Green Kitchen Technical Guidelines” and three-tiered Green Kitchen Award, the initiative aims to help F&B tenants integrate effective sustainability solutions into the design of their premises prior to operations, to improve environmental performance and enhance the wellbeing of staff. The Guidelines cover areas including energy and water usage reduction, air quality improvement and waste reduction.

Green Shop Alliance

Swire Properties was the first property developer to join the Green Shop Alliance, which was established in May 2017 by the Construction Industry Council and the Hong Kong Green Building Council, aiming to promote sustainability initiatives in the retail industry in Hong Kong, including among owners, facility managers and tenants. More than 60 of our retail tenants pledged to adopt green measures aimed at reducing energy and water use and managing waste through reuse and recycling.

Our efforts in working with each of these tenants to help them fulfil their pledge and incorporate sustainable practices into their daily operations brought us several recognitions in the 2022 HKGSA Awards, including the Special Citation on Carbon Neutrality, a Bronze Award for Citygate Outlets in the Best Green Practice in Malls category, and the Best Tenant Partner Award for Cityplaza in the Best Collaborative Effort of Malls and Shops category.

Sustainable Procurement

Working with our building main contractors and suppliers, we strive to purchase sustainable office products, building services equipment and building materials whenever possible. We have established a company-wide sustainable procurement monitoring system which analyses purchases against specific environmental criteria, such as whether the products have been certified or accredited by reputable, independent third parties.
