In Hong Kong and Mainland China, the launch of Swire Hotels has enabled us to build on our strength in mixed-use developments, adding value and synergy to our investment property portfolio.
In 2008, the launch of The Opposite House in Beijing marked the first Swire Hotels property in China. This 99-room lifestyle hotel was followed by the opening in 2009 of The Upper House, a 117-room luxury hotel in Pacific Place, Hong Kong. In 2010, EAST, Hong Kong, a 344-room lifestyle business hotel in Island East, was opened to meet the growing needs of the business hub there. EAST, Beijing, a 369-room lifestyle business hotel, opened its doors at INDIGO in 2012, becoming Swire Hotels’ second EAST hotel as well as our second Beijing hotel.
In the UK, Swire Hotels has launched its new British hotel brand “Chapter Hotels”, a collection of locally inspired hotels. The first Chapter Hotel, The Montpellier Chapter, was unveiled in Cheltenham in 2010, whilst the second one, The Magdalen Chapter, opened in Exeter in 2012.
We also have investment shares in a number of high-profile hospitality properties, including the Conrad Hong Kong, Island Shangri-La Hong Kong, JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong and Novotel Citygate Hong Kong, as well as the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami, Florida.
