Art Basel Hong Kong

Swire Properties has been a proud Partner of Art Basel’s Hong Kong edition since 2013, and this year, we are delighted to once again stage the Swire Properties Arts Month, a dedicated series of activations to celebrate art and culture with local and international artists as part of our company’s long-term commitment to ensuring art and culture are accessible to everyone.

Swire Properties will celebrate the launch of our 2024 Arts Month with the unveiling of SHELF II, a new permanent addition to Artwalk in Taikoo Place by the renowned British sculptor Antony Gormley.

At Art Basel Hong Kong, the award-winning architecture and design studio Snøhetta has designed the Swire Properties VIP Lounge. 'HORIZON' will introduce visitors to an evocative interplay between a dramatic reflective canopy representing the sky and the soft, colourful landscape below. Within this space, we will host our live Dialogue Series, bringing together leading experts and voices to celebrate art and design, exploring contemporary issues and inspiring audiences.

Bringing world-class art to the public, Pacific Place will be home to Art Basel Hong Kong’s Offsite Encounters with a major debut installation by the First Nations Australian artist Daniel Boyd.

While ArtisTree in Taikoo Place will present two new large-scale installations by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos where visitors will be amazed and intrigued to experience her transformational material-clad installations.

‘HORIZON’ by Snøhetta

The renowned design studio Snøhetta has created the Swire Properties VIP lounge 'HORIZON' at Art Basel Hong Kong this year. Their vision, influenced by the stunning views of Victoria Harbour beyond the lounge, is for a simple and elegant structural form created by the evocative interplay between a dramatic reflective canopy representing the sky and the landscape below. The 'HORIZON' is to be found in the gradient of the pace between the two - where guests and visitors will gather and experience the continuously changing spectacle of light and reflection between the sky and land.

The soft, colourful and tactile ground contrasts with the light, polished, and reflective surface of the suspended sculptural 'Sky'. This engaging sense of play creates a welcoming atmosphere designed to foster social interaction and engagement. The spacious landscape, with its movable seating, will accommodate a flexible array of gatherings and events, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in an ever-evolving social experience.

In keeping with Swire Properties' and Snøhetta’s commitment to best sustainable practices, the lounge is designed to be reconfigured and relocated after the event, with many of the components able to be reused.
