Swire Announces Succession Plans

Mr James Hughes-Hallett, currently Chairman of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Ltd., Swire Pacific Ltd. and Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., will be leaving Hong Kong at the end of the year to take up a new role in London as Chairman of John Swire & Sons Ltd. in succession to Sir Adrian Swire. Sir Adrian will continue as a Director of Swire Pacific, and as Advisor to the Board of John Swire & Sons Ltd. in London.

Subject to approval by the respective boards, Mr Hughes-Hallett will be succeeded by Mr David Turnbull as Chairman of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Ltd., Swire Pacific Ltd. and Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd.

Mr Turnbull, aged 49, joined the Swire group in 1976. He was appointed Managing Director of Cathay Pacific in December 1996 and has been Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of the airline since July 1998. He is also an Executive Director of Swire Pacific Ltd.

Mr Keith Kerr will be succeeding Mr Hughes-Hallett as Chairman of Swire Properties Ltd. Mr Kerr, aged 51, will also retain his positions as an Executive Director of Swire Pacific Ltd. and Managing Director of Swire Properties Ltd.
