Pacific Place Cinemas Set to Remodel

Swire Properties jointly announced with UA Cinemas today (Friday, 13 January 2006) that UA Pacific Place Cinema will close on Thursday, 26 January to commence the redevelopment of the current cinema into a modern, state-of-the-art cinema complex. The new cinema complex is scheduled for opening in the second half of 2006.

Mr Jolyon Culbertson, Director and General Manager of Swire Properties, said, " UA Cinemas has brought the best standards to Pacific Place back in the late 1980s and has been doing a good job ever since." Mr Culbertson added, "Movie-goers have raised their expectations, so it is necessary to adopt new viewing and digital technologies and especially provide stadium style seating for optimum viewing sight-lines. The only way to create a new, style and elegant cinema to match the modern lifestyles of today's cinema guests, is to close the cinema complex completely in order to totally redevelop the premises."

Mr Bob Vallone Director of UA Cinemas, shared the view of Mr Culbertson and said, "We are proud to have been a tenant of Pacific Place, opening the cinemas in February 1989 when the mall originally opened. As always, Swire Properties is our great business partner. The parties have been working together closely towards the same goal for UA Pacific Place Cinema and also our other cinemas at Cityplaza and Citygate." Mr Vallone added, "UA Pacific Place Cinema was the gathering place for those discerning cinemagoers these past sixteen years who enjoyed the casual elegance and superior film presentations. It is truly a good time to turn the cinema into an exciting new venue for Hong Kong."
