Internationally Acclaimed Architect Frank Gehry Unveils Design of First Residential Project in Asia for Swire Properties

Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry today unveils his design for Swire Properties’ residential development at 53 Stubbs Road, The Peak. The project is the first residential development undertaken by Gehry in Asia and is due for completion in 2011.

Mr Gehry, renowned for his extraordinary architectural style and his ingenious sculptural buildings, is one of the world’s most influential and acclaimed architects. His best known works include the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Stata Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago.

“Swire Properties is honoured to work with Frank Gehry on his first major project in Asia” said Martin Cubbon, Chief Executive of Swire Properties. “Throughout his career Frank Gehry’s exceptional talent has advanced the frontiers of modern architecture. In 53 Stubbs Road we share a vision to create a stunning architectural classic in a world class location.”

Mr Gehry has been working on the project with Hong Kong-born design partner Edwin Chan. “This unique project with its spectacular vistas overlooking Victoria Harbour appealed to us enormously,” said Gehry. “It has been a tremendous collaboration with a visionary developer and we are delighted with the results, which reflect our joint philosophy of delivering beautiful homes which are truly inspirational.”

The project’s location, the limited number of only 12 residences and their size – each is some 6,000 sq ft in area – combine with the building’s breath-taking design to offer something of great rarity in the residential market. “What we are creating at 53 Stubbs Road is something unique for which there is no comparable property globally,” said Cubbon.
