Swire Properties and Sino-Ocean Land Celebrate Grand Opening of INDIGO Beijing

Swire Properties and Sino-Ocean Land today jointly announced the grand opening of INDIGO in Beijing. Joined by over 500 guests, Martin Cubbon, Chief Executive of Swire Properties Limited, and Li Ming, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Sino-Ocean Land Holdings Limited, officiated the ceremony in the spectacular Winter Garden of INDIGO mall.

INDIGO is situated in the Chaoyang District, and offers a refreshing combination of shopping, leisure, business and hospitality. The retail-led mixed-use development has a total gross floor area of approximately 176,000 sqm, which encompasses a 87,000 sqm shopping mall, a 25-storey Grade-A office Tower named ONE INDIGO, and EAST Beijing, a lifestyle business hotel offering 369 rooms and suites. A park spanning over 17 hectares is currently being planned.

“We are very proud of INDIGO – the first joint venture project between Swire Properties and Sino-Ocean Land,” said Cubbon. “INDIGO embodies our strategy of creating vibrant, connected places within urban locations, and is, I believe, a truly compelling new landmark for Beijing. It was only four years ago that we first announced this joint-venture project, and today’s grand opening is tangible proof of the value this partnership can deliver. We hold similar positive expectations for our Daci Temple project in Chengdu, also a joint venture with Sino-Ocean.”

The strategic partnership between Swire Properties and Sino Ocean allows the two companies to leverage their expertise in their respective areas of strength – Swire Properties’ years of experience in project design and portfolio and hotel management perfectly complemented Sino-Ocean’s extensive construction and project planning expertise, resulting in the smooth development and execution of the INDIGO project.

“We believe INDIGO provides an answer to this community’s growing need for recreational, leisure, retail and entertainment facilities. By bringing many new international and local brands into the area, we are excited to contribute to the transformation of the neighborhood while providing more choices and offerings.” said Li.

Boasting over 170 shops, the INDIGO mall offers an eclectic range of brands, including CGV XINGXING International Cinema, Page One international book store and BHG Market Place.

Rare among retail developments in Beijing, the mall features a 2,400 sqm Winter Garden, an airy interior space with a sweeping glass rooftop which floods the entire interior with natural light. Featuring a wide array of fine restaurants as well as a large event area, the Winter Garden provides a smooth, gradual transition between the mall and the outdoor park. Upon completion, the 17 hectares of parkland will offer visitors a vibrant combination of green landscape, architecture, art and activity space.

Situated in the Jiuxianqiao area within the affluent Chaoyang District, home of many high-end residential developments, international schools and blue-chip multinational corporations, INDIGO is just 15 minutes from the Beijing Capital International Airport and CBD, 10 minutes away from Sanlitun Village, and a stone's throw away from the famous 798 Art District. Future direct connections to the fourth ring road and Beijing Subway Line 14 will offer unparallelled connectivity for visitors, shoppers and office workers.

In celebration of INDIGO’s grand opening, visitors will be able to enjoy a range of exciting performances as well as attractive promotions at INDIGO mall until mid-October 2012.
