Swire Properties today kicked off the two-day “White Christmas Street Fair 2013” with a lighting ceremony at Tong Chong Street in Island East. The street fair is both a festive celebration for the community and a fundraising event. The event features Christmas market stalls, festive food and drinks, live entertainment and fun games for all ages, and is expected to welcome thousands of visitors.
With the theme of “Spreading Christmas Cheer for Charity”, the street fair is raising funds from proceeds of sales from retail booths, food and beverage stalls, and other activities operated by pay-what-you-wish donation. Combined with a series of internal fundraising events and direct donations associated with this festive celebration, Swire Properties targets to raise a total of HK$500,000 for Operation Santa Claus, an annual fundraising campaign which supports local and regional non-profit organisations.
“The White Christmas Street Fair is very much a celebration for our staff and friends, and especially for the wider community,” said Martin Cubbon, Chief Executive of Swire Properties, today during the lighting ceremony of Swire Properties’ White Christmas Street Fair 2013. “It’s an opportunity for everyone to come together with their families and friends to celebrate the holiday season, and to donate to a very worthy cause. The event marks the beginning of a new annual tradition for Swire Properties, and I hope that everyone enjoys our festive celebration and gives generously to help those in need this Christmas.”
Over 200 Community Ambassadors - Swire Properties’ employee volunteers – are showing their volunteer spirit by participating in the operation of the two-day street fair. They also put in weeks of effort to produce an array of handcrafted goods for sale at the street fair, including leather pouches and Christmas ornaments. In addition, over 100 Swire group companies, tenants and business partners are participating at the fair through cash donation as well as giving away a wide range of appealing and affordable merchandise to raise funds from the public.
Live entertainment will be on offer throughout the two-day event, including a brass quintet performance by the Hong Kong Philharmonic, selected songs from a Broadway revival of A Chorus Line by Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, a jazz band performance led by Grammy-award nominee Howard McCrary, and a special Christmas song in sign language performed by Swire Properties’ Community Ambassadors.
