Swire Properties Launches White Christmas Street Fair 2014

Swire Properties today kicked off its three-day festive celebration, the White Christmas Street Fair 2014, with a tree-lighting ceremony at Tong Chong Street in TaiKoo Place. Held between 4 and 6 December, the community event aims to raise funds for charity campaign Operation Santa Claus and features live entertainment, Christmas shopping, festive food and drink and workshops, as well as Hong Kong’s first-ever outdoor ice rink.

With the theme of “Sharing Christmas Sweetness with the Community”, the Fair will raise funds from proceeds of sales from the market stalls and interactive workshops operated by pay-what-you-wish donation. Combined with a series of internal fundraising events and direct donations, proceeds from the fair will go to Operation Santa Claus, an annual fundraising campaign which supports local and regional non-profit organisations.

“Following the successful debut of our White Christmas Street Fair at TaiKoo Place last year, this year’s fair is even bigger and we hope better.” said Martin Cubbon, Chief Executive of Swire Properties, in his opening remarks. “It is a ‘Swire Properties’ way of sending season greetings to the Quarry Bay community . We invite everyone to come together with their families and friends to celebrate the holiday season, and to donate for a very great cause.”

Over 200 Community Ambassadors - Swire Properties’ employee volunteers – put in weeks of effort to produce an array of handcrafted goods for sale at the Fair, including handmade soaps, leather accessories and Christmas wreaths. About 150 Community Ambassadors also showed their volunteer spirit by participating in the operation of the three-day event.

In addition, Swire Properties has partnered with social enterprise People on Board to run the fundraising event “TaiKoo Place Santathon Candy Challenge 2014” on 6 December. Taking place in the heart of the commercial hub, over 380 participants and their families will dress up as Santa and race through TaiKoo Place on a candy-themed obstacle course.

Last year’s White Christmas Street Fair attracted over 13,000 visitors during its two-day run, with Swire Properties donating HK$1 million to its beneficiary Operation Santa Claus.
