Taikoo Li Sanlitun launches new event venue for 2015 Beijing Music Festival press conference

Taikoo Li Sanlitun today launched a multipurpose space, The Red, by hosting the space’s debut event – the press conference of the 18th Beijing Music Festival (BMF). After becoming a Golden Sponsor in 2014, Swire Properties has furthered its support for the annual musical event by staging the public debut of The Red to open BMF.

Founded in 1998, BMF has grown in reputation and stature to become one of the capital city’s iconic annual cultural events. Each year, it presents to the public through different themes music performances by leading artists from China and around the world. During the six consecutive years that Swire Properties has served as a sponsor and partner of BMF, the two organisations have collaborated closely and successfully in bringing a variety of musical forms into the community and people’s daily lives.

“Swire Properties is a long-time supporter of arts and culture,” said Alvin Kong, Director, Retail of Swire Properties. “BMF is a world-renowned musical event, and its vision and mission resonate with Swire Properties and Taikoo Li Sanlitun. 2015 marks the second year that Swire Properties has been named a Golden Sponsor of BMF, and the debut of The Red today not only demonstrates our strong support for the festival, but is also a perfect example of Swire Properties’ creativity and Taikoo Li Sanlitun’s dedication to continuous improvement. As an iconic cultural and fashion destination in Beijing, and as a venue partner of BMF, Taikoo Li Sanlitun will continue to support BMF in bringing various forms of high-quality music to our customers as well as residents in nearby communities.”

The Red sits at the south corner of Taikoo Li Sanlitun North. The venue, whose name was inspired by its striking red brick exterior, is a two-level open space with 7.5-metre-high ceilings and a gross floor area of 1,000 sqm that can accommodate up to 400 people. The second floor is an “L”-shaped corridor that links two outdoor terraces, each of which boasts great views. Inside The Red are VIP rooms, standard meeting rooms and storage cubes. The space is suitable for hosting various types of high-end, cutting-edge events. The launch of The Red adds another venue option in the Sanlitun area and perfectly complements The Orange in Taikoo Li Sanlitun South as another major indoor venue within Taikoo Li Sanlitun.

“We are delighted to hold the BMF press conference at The Red in Taikoo Li Sanlitun, which marks the prelude to this year’s BMF,” said Yu Long, Artistic Director of BMF. “Since forming a partnership with Swire Properties, BMF has received great support from Taikoo Li Sanlitun in hosting a range of concerts and interactive activities, and the festival has also benefitted from this unique destination’s energy and fashion sense. I look forward to expanding our collaboration with Swire Properties in the future, and I am thankful to the company, as well as all other BMF sponsors, for their great support over the years, which has helped BMF flourish and grow.”

This year’s BMF will see four concerts staged at The Orange in Taikoo Li Sanlitun South, two of which – a performance by Liu Suola and her band, and a performance by the Estonian National Male Choir – feature Swire Properties as the title sponsor. The concerts will be broadcast live on the giant LED screen at The Piazza in Taikoo Li Sanlitun South.

The 18th BMF will run for 17 days from 8–24 October, during which 18 concerts will be staged, making the festival a veritable audiovisual feast for music lovers.
