Swire Properties Introduces “Ice & Cosy” White Christmas Street Fair 2015

Swire Properties today kicked off its signature community event, the White Christmas Street Fair 2015, at Tong Chong Street in Taikoo Place. Held between 3 and 5 December, the three-day Street Fair features festive food and drink, live entertainment, Christmas shopping and DIY workshops, with an aim to raise funds for the charity organisation Operation Santa Claus.

Hosted by Guy Bradley, Chief Executive of Swire Properties, the opening ceremony began with a stage performance of Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol, and came to a climax with a live performance by the “Workafrolics”, a homegrown band formed by Swire Properties’ employees and its tenants in Taikoo Place and Cityplaza.

“This is our third year hosting the White Christmas Street Fair at Taikoo Place, and it’s been wonderful to see how the Street Fair continues to evolve into a major community event. It’s an important tradition for us and a special highlight on the city’s Christmas calendar,” said Guy Bradley at the opening ceremony. “The Street Fair is very much a community celebration for families and friends to come together to celebrate the holiday season for a good cause.”

With the theme of “Ice & Cosy”, the Street Fair will be adding a frozen touch to festivities this year. Highlights include a stylish outdoor ice bar in a refrigerated cargo container, where visitors can put on warm jackets to enjoy a cold cocktail or ice popsicle at temperatures below -5°C. The “ICY EXPERIENCE” brings advanced virtual technology to Tong Chong Street, transporting visitors to a virtual Artic to get up close and personal with realistic 3D animals, whilst the anticipated “Taikoo Place Santathon 2015 – Frozen Challenge”, will see 400 participants dress up as Santa and his Elves and race through Taikoo Place on an ice-themed obstacle course. Swire Properties’ staff volunteers, the Community Ambassadors, run arts and crafts workshops at the event, where visitors of all ages can create unique handmade Christmas gifts for their families and friends.

The Street Fair will also feature an array of festive food and drink spearheaded by Swire Hotels’ EAST Hong Kong and Swire Restaurants’ newly opened Mr & Mrs Fox, together with our F&B tenants from Tong Chong Street. With offerings such as sakura mulled wine, cinnamon and berry crêpes and turkey sausages, visitors can enjoy delicious Christmas-themed food and drinks created exclusively for the Street Fair.

Proceeds from activities at the Street Fair will be donated to Operation Santa Claus, an annual fundraising campaign which supports local and regional non-profit organisations. Last year’s White Christmas Street Fair attracted some 28,000 visitors and raised a total of HK$1 million for Operation Santa Claus.
