Swire Properties Breaks Fundraising Record with Annual Charity Book Sale

Swire Properties today announced that it has raised HK$630,000 from its annual charity book sale, “Books for Love @ $10”, held from 21 to 24 April at ArtisTree in Taikoo Place. The event attracted over 25,000 visitors, and the final fundraising amount broke a new record from the company’s previous charity book sales. All proceeds from the sale will go to The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA) to support its “Treasure Trove” project, which helps create educational opportunities for underprivileged children.

More than 1,000 of Swire Properties’ Community Ambassadors and volunteers from BGCA participated in the preparation and operation of the four-day charity sale. Prior to the sale, volunteers helped sort and categorise over 100,000 new and second-hand books, many of which were donated by the public in a book drive held from Feburary to March this year. Apart from providing event venue and mobilising its employees, Swire Properties effectively leverage its resources by placing collection boxes in many of its commercial properties as well as offices of some companies under the Swire group such as Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon. BGCA also placed collection boxes at its service centres.

A series of free interactive storytelling and creative workshops were also conducted by non-profit organisation Shakespeare4All Hong Kong, educational toy local startup TEBie and BGCA senior social workers. In addition, the semi-finals of the “Children Storytelling Competition 2016”, co-organised by BGCA and Radio Television Hong Kong was hosted at ArtisTree on 24 April.

With the aim of promoting a love of reading in a green and affordable way and contributing to a meaningful cause, the charity campaign has, since its launch in 2009, received an overwhelming response from Swire Properties’ partners, tenants and the general public.
