Safety is of the upmost importance to us as we continue to maintain our exemplary record, which includes zero work-related fatalities and a low lost-time injury rate. We are committed to a safety culture and aim to increase total occupational health and safety training hours by 5% during 2015–2020 through a combination of mandatory training courses, induction and refresher trainings, regular safety talks and ad hoc training courses.

As part of this commitment, some of our employees have contributed ideas to address health and safety in the workplace. The Cityplaza technical team, for instance, came up with two innovative solutions that enhance health and safety and boost productivity.

The first is the Temporary Indoor Air Quality Improvement Guard, a portable and easily assembled ventilation system that reduces inhalation of harmful dust, gas and chemical substances in the workplace while also keeping windows covered to prevent objects from falling. For their efforts, the team won the gold Safety Enhancement Programme Award at the 14th Hong Kong Occupational Safety & Health Awards.

The Cityplaza technical team’s second health and safety solution is the Davit Arm-lifting Cart, a device that removes the need for manual lifting when carrying davit arms during installation of temporary working platforms. The lifting cart enables davit arms to be transported more quickly and efficiently, requiring only two workers, as opposed to four.
