Swire Properties’ Book Donation to Jing’an District Library in Shanghai Promotes Cultural Enrichment

Swire Properties’ Shanghai Representative Office today donated a collection of around 900 new English and Hong Kong original edition books to the Shanghai Jing’an District Library — becoming the first corporation to make a major book donation to the Library since the Library’s establishment in 1958.

A donation ceremony was held at the Library today, and was officiated by Zhu Cheng Gang, Deputy Mayor of Jing’an District, Shi Wen Bin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Jing’an Culture Bureau, Zhang Ai Hua, Vice-minister of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Jing’an District Committee and Director of Jing’an Culture Bureau, and Ainsley Mann, Swire Properties’ General Manager of Shanghai & Eastern China.

“Jing’an District places great emphasis on culture and education. The government is eager to create cultural platforms for enriching residents’ leisure lives,” said Zhu. “We also welcome corporations’ participation to promote cultural exchange as well as enhance the District’s cultural development.”

Built in 1958, the Shanghai Jing'an District Library is run by the Jing'an Culture Bureau. As one of the most important cultural destinations in the downtown area, the Library has offered a relaxing and comfortable reading environment to the community for more than 50 years. To enable readers to fully enjoy this new collection, a special area has been set up in the Reference Book Reading Room on the 3rd floor of the Library. Twenty students and office workers were invited to the ceremony and became the first readers of the new collection.

“Swire Properties is committed to creating and sustaining vibrant communities,” said Mann. “Our Dazhongli mixed-use project is located in Jing’an District, and it is our great honor to offer a new variety of reading materials to the residents, enriching their cultural life and contributing to ‘building communities’ in the District.”

To cater to a wide readership, Swire Properties has donated books which span a variety of categories, including literature and general fiction, arts and culture, architecture, environmental protection, education and community service. Incorporated in Hong Kong, Swire Properties’ long-standing commitment to promoting arts and culture serves to raise the quality of people’s lives, and forges connections between its employees, residents and the wider community.
