‘BOOKS for LOVE @ $10’ Charity Book Sale Returns from 12-15 April

Free-of-charge interactive workshops, storytelling sessions and photo booth

"BOOKS for LOVE @ $10", the signature event of the Swire Properties Community Ambassadors, returns for its eighth run this month, running from 12 noon to 8pm every day from 12 to 15 April 2018 at ArtisTree in Taikoo Place, Quarry Bay. Combining a charity book sale with an array of interactive storytelling and creative workshops, the event will provide a carnival of culture, arts, environmental awareness and fundraising for Hong Kong's book-lovers. The campaign is co-organised with the Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA) and the Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS).

This year’s “BOOKS for LOVE @ $10” kickstarted in January with a two-and-a-half-month book drive. With tremendous support from the community, including the public, media organisations and publishers, more than 150,000 second-hand books were collected - a record high since the programme's launch. All the books were sorted and categorised by around 900 volunteers from the three organising parties.

All titles will be sold at HK$10 each during the four-day charity sale, with proceeds going to assist BGCA’s “Treasure Trove” child development project, and AVS’s efforts to develop volunteerism in Hong Kong.

With the aim of incubating a deeper interest in reading, particularly among children, a series of interactive programmes - including a paper-knitting workshop, handicraft workshops and storytelling sessions - will be hosted by the partnering non-profit organisations and local artists. Each session is free of charge and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To minimise wastage resulting from the book sale, the venue setup will embrace the concept of upcycling. Supporting the “Made of Bamboo” campaign initiated by the Environmental Protection Department, the Environmental Campaign Committee and online swap platform “JupYeah”, bamboo used for booths at the Chinese New Year Flower Market is being upcycled to create tables for the book sale. Following the sale, various materials will be retained to be used at other events.
