Swire Properties Advances to Seventh Globally and First in Asia in Latest Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

Only Hong Kong Company Included in Leading Global Benchmark for Fifth Consecutive Year

Swire Properties is on track to realise its Sustainable Development (“SD”) 2030 vision to become the leading SD performer in the real estate industry globally. In the latest Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World), Swire Properties ranked seventh out of 237 real estate companies around the world and number one in Asia.

Regarding the “Environmental Dimension” score in the index, Swire Properties rose to third globally, demonstrating its exemplary performance in environmental governance, climate strategy, energy and water management, resources and circularity, as well as green building investment.

For the fifth year in a row, Swire Properties was the only constituent company from Hong Kong to be listed on the DJSI World, which includes the 18 top-performing companies in the real estate industry globally, as well as leading organisations from other industries.

Tim Blackburn, Chief Executive of Swire Properties, said: “It is hugely encouraging to be recognised in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and other leading sustainability benchmarks once again in 2021. In the face of the climate change crisis, we have stepped up our efforts to limit global warming to 1.5°C.  We will continue to work with our tenants, business partners and other key stakeholders on our journey to achieve net zero, bringing positive change to our communities and to the environment.”

Swire Properties tops rankings in three leading sustainability indices in 2021

The latest achievement in the DJSI ranking comes on top of Swire Properties’ high ranking in two other leading sustainability benchmarks in 2021. In October, the Company retained its Global Sector Leader title in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) for the fifth consecutive year and also ranked number one in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index (HSSUS) for the fourth year in a row – achieving the highest total score among approximately 500 assessed companies.

Swire Properties has accelerated its efforts to fight climate change by setting ambitious new 1.5°C-aligned science-based targets (SBTs) that are approximately 50% more aggressive than its original 2°C-aligned SBTs approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2019. These new goals were officially approved in September 2021, meaning the Company is on the right path to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 and demonstrating strong support for the Hong Kong Government’s pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
