Fighting the Virus: Dial a Lo Yau Gei

Many community facilities were closed during the outbreak of COVID-19, greatly affecting the lives of our “Lo Yau Gei” (elderly friends), who may not be able to grasp the latest information. Our Community Ambassadors took the opportunity to contact elderly people in the local community to provide reassurance.

In partnership with the Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association, the Ambassador programme organised the “Dial a Lo Yau Gei Programme”, which involved phoning senior citizens in the Eastern District community – the Lo Yau Gei – to care about their health and emotional needs, to pass on advice about how to deal with the outbreak, such as the importance of good hygiene and when to seek medical help, and to refer the cases to social workers when necessary.

The programme was carried out in three phases, and was supported by over 120 Community Ambassadors, benefiting 250 elderly lining in the Eastern District.
